I'm Brett Fish.
Ex-adrenaline junkie. Two rebuilt hips. Full-time recovery nerd.
For about twenty years I lived with the throttle wide open. Snowboarding, speed, and the next hit of adrenaline — recovery was something other people did. The body kept up because I told it to.
Then it stopped keeping up. The receipts piled up over the years — broken ribs, separated shoulders, a torn ACL, concussions, even my front teeth knocked out — and eventually both hips. The fast life ended in a single afternoon. What followed was a long, humbling stretch of waiting rooms, physical therapy, and nights where sleep was the only thing that actually moved the needle on how I felt. My faith and my family carried me through the parts physical therapy couldn't.
As my body started to break down, I knew I had to figure it out — I wasn't going to be the dad who couldn't keep up with his own sons. So I got obsessive the way I used to be about lines down a mountain: I dug into diet, rest and recovery, fitness, and metabolic health, and I couldn't believe how many things I'd been doing wrong — or how many toxins we all soak in every single day without thinking about it.
One of the first dominoes was alcohol. I'd always treated it as harmless fun; then I understood it for what it is — a toxin and a sleep disruptor — and that poor sleep quietly runs your whole life cycle faster. Sleep is where I went deepest. This whole thing became one long question: how do you stay young and active even as you age? That question has shaped my life.
I broke the body chasing a high. I rebuilt it chasing the data.
This site is that work, written down. n=1 experiments, sleep science in plain English, honest reads on the research, and the gear and supplements that actually earned a spot in my kit. Lately it's grown into something bigger I didn't plan on: relearning what's actually healthy in the first place — from what I put in my body to what's quietly in the water and the cookware. When something does nothing, I'll tell you that too — that's the whole point.
Why the disclosures matter
My day job is Head of Sales at Risachi Health, and some links here earn me a commission. Pretending otherwise would make everything else on this site worthless. So I'll always flag it when Risachi Healthcomes up, I'll point you at lab results instead of asking you to take my word, and I'll happily tell you when something else is the better buy.
None of this is medical advice. I'm a guy with a tracker, a reading habit, and two rebuilt hips — not your doctor. Talk to a clinician before you change anything that matters.
